Leicester City will attempt to claim back-to-back victories when they welcome Birmingham City to the King Power Stadium on Friday.
Meanwhile, Chris Davies’s side will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign, having taken seven points from their opening three league games.
Leicester are currently sitting in seventh place in the Championship table after winning two and losing one of Marti Cifuentes’ first three league matches in charge.
Cifuentes kicked off his tenure with a narrow 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, before his team lost on penalties to Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup and fell to a 2-1 defeat in their away league clash against Preston North End.
However, the Foxes managed to produce a positive response in their most recent outing against Charlton Athletic, with Abdul Fatawu scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory at The Valley.
They will now be looking to build upon that result in their first meeting with Birmingham since picking up a narrow 2-1 victory in April 2024.
In fact, the Foxes have won each of their previous six matches against their fellow Midlands club, which has helped them form a nine-game unbeaten run in head-to-head meetings (W7, D2).
Leicester will hope that their impressive head-to-head record can inspire them to become the first team to beat Birmingham in a league game since Bolton Wanderers in March.
After storming to the League One title last season, Birmingham have made an unbeaten start to their Championship campaign, winning two and drawing one of their first three matches to put themselves in fifth position in the standings.
Blues kicked off the season with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, before they recorded 2-1 victories over Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup and league, respectively.
Birmingham made it three wins on the bounce when they edged out Oxford United via a 1-0 scoreline on Saturday, thanks to Paik Seung-ho’s 40th-minute effort at St Andrew’s.
Unfortunately for Birmingham, a much-changed team were unable to continue their winning run in Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash against Port Vale, who picked up a 1-0 victory to condemn Davies’s charges to a second-round exit.
They will be looking to bounce back in Friday’s contest, knowing that a third consecutive league win would move them to the top of the table ahead of the remaining 11 fixtures on matchday four.
However, claiming all three points will be easier said than done for a club that have not beaten Birmingham since they clinched a 2-0 home victory in October 2011.
The Foxes are still having to cope without the injured trio of Victor Kristiansen, Harry Souttar and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
Leicester are hopeful that winger Stephy Mavididi recovers in time after missing the recent win over Charlton with a minor issue.
Bilal El Khannouss recently saw a proposed move to Crystal Palace fall through, but he still continues to be linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, so it remains to be seen whether he will be involved in Friday’s fixture.
As for the visitors, forward Scott Wright is continuing to work on his rehabilitation from a long-term knee injury.
After rotating his side in midweek, Davies could opt to revert to the lineup that started Saturday’s narrow win over Oxford.
Kanya Fujimoto and Marvin Ducksch will provide options off the bench after returning from injury to get 45 minutes under their belts on Tuesday.
Leicester City possible starting lineup:
Stolarczyk; Choudhury, Okoli, Vestegaard, Thomas; Soumare, Skipp; Fatawu, Daka, Mavididi; Ayew
Birmingham City possible starting lineup:
Allsop; Osayi-Samuel, Neumann, Klarer, Laird; Iwata, Paik; Willumsson, Stansfield, Gray; Furushashi
We say: Leicester City 2-1 Birmingham City
Leicester have won each of their last six competitive matches head-to-head matches, and although Birmingham have made a promising start to the campaign, we feel the foxes will have too much for their Brummie counterparts!
