Premier League Matchday no.25 Review

The Title Race & Top Four
Liverpool 1-2 Manchester City: In the weekend’s marquee matchup at Anfield on 8 February 2026, City clawed back a vital victory. Dominik Szoboszlai gave the hosts the lead in the 74th minute, but a late surge saw Bernardo Silva equalise (84′) before Erling Haaland converted a stoppage-time penalty (90+3′) to stun the home crowd.
Arsenal 3-0 Sunderland: The Gunners capitalised on the slip-ups of their rivals with a clinical display at the Emirates. Martin Zubimendi opened the scoring with a long-range stunner (42′) before a second-half brace from substitute Viktor Gyökeres (66′, 90+3′) sealed the win.
Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham: Michael Carrick’s resurgent side earned their fourth straight win. Spurs captain Cristian Romero was sent off in the 29th minute, allowing Bryan Mbeumo (38′) and Bruno Fernandes (81′) to secure the three points, leaving United just three points behind second-place City.
Bournemouth 1-1 Aston Villa: Villa’s title hopes took a minor hit at the Vitality Stadium. After Morgan Rogers put the visitors ahead, Brazilian winger Rayan scored his first goal for the Cherries to salvage a draw and prevent Villa from provisionally moving into second.
Wolves 1-3 Chelsea: Cole Palmer was the star at Molineux, netting a sensational first-half hat-trick. Palmer scored twice from the spot (13′, 35′) and added a third in the 38th minute to maintain Liam Rosenior’s 100% start as Chelsea manager.
Mid-Table & European Chasers
Newcastle 2-3 Brentford: A five-goal thriller at St. James’ Park saw Dango Ouattara score a dramatic 85th-minute winner. Despite Sven Botman and Bruno Guimarães finding the net for the Magpies, Brentford’s resilience earned them a second successive away win.
Fulham 1-2 Everton: David Moyes’ Everton side staged a second-half comeback. Trailing to a Vitalii Mykolenko own goal, the Toffees responded through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (76′) and a late Bernd Leno own goal to move up to eighth.
Brighton 0-1 Crystal Palace: In the M23 derby, Ismaïla Sarr (61′) provided the decisive blow to give Palace a crucial away victory.
Relegation Battle
Leeds 3-1 Nottingham Forest: Leeds moved nine points clear of the drop zone with a dominant Friday night performance. Goals from Jayden Bogle, Noah Okafor, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin secured the points, with Lorenzo Lucca netting a late consolation for Forest.
Burnley 0-2 West Ham: The Hammers boosted their survival hopes at Turf Moor. Early goals from Crysencio Summerville (13′) and Valentín Castellanos (26′) secured a vital win over fellow strugglers Burnley.
